Returns, Exchanges & Replacement Policy

At CardsforAlma, every deck is lovingly handcrafted and created specifically for you. As each order is a custom commission, we do not offer returns, refunds, or exchanges for completed artwork.

Custom Commission Policy

Each deck is individually painted by hand using watercolours, fine-liners, acrylic paints, and premium-quality paper cards. Because every piece is created specifically for each client, all sales are final.

Reference Photos & Consultation

The accuracy of your artwork depends greatly on the quality of the reference photos you provide and the information shared during the consultation and planning process following your purchase.

To achieve the best possible result, clients are responsible for:

  • Providing clear, high-quality reference photographs.
  • Supplying accurate information regarding features such as skin tone, hair colour, eye colour, clothing, pets, locations, and other important details.
  • Reviewing and communicating any corrections or additional information during the consultation and planning stage before artwork begins.
  • Emphasizing important details in regards to the photos and memories.

We cannot be held responsible for inaccuracies resulting from poor-quality, heavily filtered, low-resolution, or incomplete reference photos, or from information that is omitted, unclear, or provided after the artwork has been completed. After purchase, clients are sent folders that key in detailed information about the intent of the card decks, please take this time to provide as much detail as possible, and the more the merrier.

Artistic Interpretation

Every deck is an original piece of hand-painted artwork. While we strive to faithfully represent the memories and references you provide, each piece is created in our distinctive artistic style.

By placing an order, you acknowledge and accept that:

  • The artist oversees the final composition of the cards and themes are designed with the overall card deck in mind. Meaning, a photo sent over may not be a one-to-one replication, but instead designed in a way that fits into the overall design of the card deck. In other words, the whole takes precedence over the one.

  •

The artwork is an artistic interpretation and not a photorealistic reproduction.
  • Brushstrokes, watercolour textures, paint blending, line work, proportions, composition, and other stylistic elements are intentional artistic choices.
  • Minor variations in colour, texture, and appearance are a natural part of creating handmade artwork.
  • Personal preference regarding artistic style, expression, or composition is not considered a production error.

We cannot offer replacements, refunds, or exchanges because you do not like the artistic style or because the artwork differs from personal aesthetic expectations.

Replacements for Inaccurate Details

We understand how important it is to preserve memories accurately. If we have made a factual error based on the information and reference materials you provided, we will happily replace the affected card(s).

Examples of factual inaccuracies include:

  • A significantly incorrect skin tone.
  • An incorrect hair colour.
  • Incorrect clothing colours where these were clearly shown in the reference images.
  • Missing or incorrect identifying features that were important to the scene.
  • Other identifiable inaccuracies where the person, place, pet, or object has not been represented correctly based on the approved references.

Approved replacements are limited to the affected card(s) only. Please note that oftentimes, cards will omit backgrounds, (ie. a photo of a couple in wedding attire with chairs in the background) if they are deemed unimportant or do not fit with the overall design of the cards.

Example situation: If a card deck was purchased to commemorate a camping trip, then trees, rivers, and rocks in the background will be included, as that is deemed necessary for the overall design. If a card deck was purchased to commemorate a wedding anniversary however, features (such as, tables, chairs, lamps, other groups or crowds), in the background may be deemed unnecessary or unimportant to the overall design of the card deck. Please ensure that important details are communicated with the artist. We will always appreciated a heavily detailed request prior to creation over fixing a card afterwards!

What Is Not Eligible for Replacement

Replacement requests will not be approved for:

  • Personal preference regarding the artistic style.
  • Wanting the artwork to look more realistic or more closely resemble the reference photo.
  • Changes of mind after artwork has been completed.
  • Inaccuracies resulting from poor-quality, unclear, or incomplete reference photos.
  • Information provided after the artwork has already been completed.
  • Minor artistic variations that naturally occur in handmade artwork.

Handmade Artwork & Intended Use

Our cards are handcrafted using professional-quality watercolours, fineliners, acrylic paints, and premium paper card stock.

Although we use high-quality materials, handmade artwork will naturally change over time through:

  • Daily handling
  • Frequent gameplay
  • Rough play
  • Exposure to sunlight, moisture, oils from hands, and general wear and tear

Our cards are primarily designed as keepsake artwork and are intended to be framed and displayed.

If you intend to use your cards for regular gameplay, please let us know before your order is created. We can apply additional protective sealing to improve durability. While this provides additional protection, no sealant can completely prevent wear over time.

Natural wear and tear, fading, scuffing, scratches, or changes caused by regular use are not considered defects and are not covered under our replacement policy.

Please note that damage to us means production errors that the artist mistakenly shipped. CardsforAlma prepares the packages with utmost care and we ensure that the packages are cushioned prior to shipping. CardsforAlma always buys insurance protection on packages, but liability falls with us when concerned with damages prior to delivery, but liability falls with the chosen carrier whilst during delivery.
